Berget Code – AI coding assistant

Stockholm, 13 May 2026 – Berget AI launches Berget Code, a service for agentic coding hosted in Sweden built on open-source software and open models.

– Tools like Claude Code and Codex have radically changed how developers work. But these tools are also used in organisations with high security requirements. That is why we are now releasing Berget Code, for developers who want to use AI while ensuring their code stays in Sweden, says Christian Landgren, founder and chief technology officer at Berget AI.

Swedish developer teams are to a large extent dependent on American coding tools while these services have begun raising prices, tightening availability, and deprioritising sustainability issues.

In December 2025, AI coding assistants passed a quality threshold that made them useful for real development work, not just for autocompleting individual lines. Since then, usage of these tools has grown rapidly, but the development has taken place almost exclusively on American infrastructure. During the first half of 2026, another development has caught up: open language models have reached the same quality level for coding.

Facts about Berget Code

Berget Code launches with Kimi K2.6, one of the most capable open models on the market, with a context window of 256,000 tokens that makes it possible to analyse entire codebases in one context.

Berget Code is built on open source and can replace American services without developers having to change their workflow or re-learn their tools. All data that is processed stays within Sweden's borders and Berget AI does not train any models on the code sent to the service.
